Part 1 – (2,500 words).
Technical report and summary briefing.
Your first task is to choose one type of change from the following list:
- Out-sourcing of activities
- Re-structuring of the organisation
- Significant expansion
- Changing organizational culture
- Delayering, or downsizing.
Then, produce a ‘Technical report’ for an occupational psychologist (up to 2,250 words) and a ‘summary briefing’ (up to 250 words) for employee representatives (e.g. trade union officials). Using strong theories and research evidence examine why the change may impact on employees’ attitudes and behaviours. Discuss the potential for both positive and negative impacts. In presenting your analysis, you must draw upon several named psychological theories and make extensive use of good research articles that examine the effects of organisational change on employees. Present your work with one overall reference list.
Part 2 – (1,500 words).
Academic essay
Discuss how various participatory approaches can be used as part of the management of change. In your answer examine the advantages and disadvantages of these approaches. Illustrate your analysis using references to examples of good quality research into the design/re-design of work equipment, work environments, work tasks and work processes.
Present your work as an academic essay of up to 1,500 words with its own reference list.
