Scenario
You are a project manager with D.O.W.S., a nonprofit nongovernmental organization (NGO) that helps people with water access and public health issues, and your managers have given you a new project to lead. Your organization has decided to launch a marketing campaign that focuses on increasing clean water access for children living in urban poverty who have little control over the water they consume. The mission of this campaign is to provide free tap filters for urban homes so all children can have unrestricted access to clean drinking water without the interference or issues that often come with government-issued supports. Although you are a privately funded NGO, you will still have to work with government agencies, as many of your target recipients live in government-funded housing. There is a permit that you must obtain from each public water supplier midway through this project, and it has been brought to your attention that these permits might be delayed due to governmental red tape. As the project manager, you will need to develop a project charter, schedule, risk and issue management report, communication plan, as well as status reports to ensure the project is completed on time, within budget, and to leadership satisfaction.
Directions
Your organization is looking to provide free tap filters for children living in areas stricken by urban poverty. You will need to develop a complete project plan in order to move this project forward. Your plan will need to include the following:
- Project charter
- Project schedule
This project has been scheduled to last three months from concept to widespread delivery.- What is the timeline for key deliverables?
- Risk management analysis
- Identify some of the inherent risks associated with this project.
- Identify some of the project-specific risks associated with this project.
- Issue management analysis
- Communication plan
- Who needs to receive communication updates?
- How often does each person or team who needs to be updated receive these updates?
- How will each of these updates be communicated?
- Status reports
- Using a template of your own creation, or one that is available for free use, prepare a status report for every other week of the project (six reports in all).
- Your status reports should include any information you determine you will need to communicate to the leadership team. You may wish to include some of the following in your status report:
- Red, yellow, green status
- Progress indicator (where you are in the project)
- Issues, glitches, impediments
- Active and resolved risks
What to Submit
Every project has a deliverable or deliverables, which are the files that must be submitted before your project can be assessed. For this project, you must submit the following:
Project Plan
Your project plan should use the provided project charter template and a project schedule template of your own design or one that has already been created. Your risk and issue management analyses and communication plans should be approximately 1,000 to 1,500 words in length. Your status reports should be presented in a consistent format using a template of your own creation or one that has already been created for use such as these.
