Assignment:

1. Invent a new prescription medication for any of the disorders covered in this course (you choose). Remember the FDA criteria for which drugs are safe to sell OTC and which drugs require a prescription. You can use an existing drug as a guide but change its molecule to make it new. If you choose to report on a combination drug, be sure to include the two or more doses of the active ingredients.

2. Write a summary report about your drug (use your drug guide as inspiration).

Include the following headers for your paragraphs:

3. Create a manufacturer’s drug label (not what the pharmacist would put on the patient’s pill  bottle) for your drug. This can be at the beginning or end of your report or on a separate sheet of paper. Be sure to include all required information on the label.

4. Write a prescription to patient John Doe, DOB: 12/24/1985 for your drug. Sign it as the prescriber. Include all information that would need to be on a legal prescription. Use appropriate abbreviations in your directions.

Your report is graded on a rubric with up to 100 points possible. Points are taken off for unclear, missing, incomplete, illogical, lack of creativity or incorrect information. Descriptions/paragraphs should be brief and clear. The due date for the report will be posted in Canvas – please submit your work online.

NOTE: The report must be in your own words. Do NOT copy and paste from other sources, such as webMD or drugs.com, although you can use those sites as inspiration and reference (cite references at the end of the report, if you use any). Work will NOT be graded if it appears to be copied in total or in part.
