Drug: Tepmetko(tepotinib)

you are to develop a 1-page newsletter for healthcare providers that includes a new drug ( Tepmetko (tepotinib))

The handout can be 1-sided or double-sided but should not exceed 1 page.

For this project, assume you are completing an APPE rotation at K-Town Medical Center. You are on rotation on the oncology floor. Your preceptor has asked you to develop a newsletter for other healthcare providers that provides information on a new chemotherapy medication. This handout will be distributed to the prescribers, pharmacy staff, and nursing staff. It should be visually appealing and written at an appropriate level for both prescribers and pharmacy and nursing staff. Further details of what your preceptor has asked you to include in the newsletter are provided in the instructions below.

  1. Review and utilize the resources below to develop your newsletter.
    1. Lexicomp
    1. Micromedex
    1. Package insert for your selected medication
    1. Phase 2 and/or phase 3 clinical trials involving your selected medication
    1. Each of these medications has an article published within the past 3 years in the New England Journal of Medicine that reports on either a phase 2 and/or phase 3 clinical trial involving the medication.
  2. Your newsletter should include the following information: Brand and generic name of the medication. Medication class for the medication. Expected pharmacologic action and the most common therapeutic use(s) of the medication. How to administer the medication. For parenteral formulations, provide information pertinent for nursing staff to be able to safely administer the medication. This may include things such as if the medication should be given as a subcutaneous injection, intramuscular injection, IV push, or IV infusion. Additional information regarding the administration should be included, such as the infusion time and if there are any restrictions on administering other medications at the same time, as relevant. If pre-medications should be given prior to administration, information regarding those premedications should also be included. For oral medications, provide information pertinent for nursing staff to be able to administer the medication safely. This should include information regarding whether the medication should be administered with or without food, if the medication can crushed or opened, and if there are any restrictions on administering other medications or foods at the same time.  Usual dosing of the medication for the common therapeutic use(s). Adverse effects of the medication including common and serious adverse effects. Limit this information to five common adverse effects and three serious adverse effects. When limiting the information, consider the frequency with which these are expected to occur. Contraindications and boxed warnings regarding the medication. Precautions regarding the medication. Limit this information to no more than three precautions. Monitoring parameters for both efficacy and safety for the medication.  Information from phase 2 and/or phase 3 clinical trials involving the medication. Include what type of trial design was used. Include a brief overview of the study procedures including what the treatment groups were including doses used, if blinding was used, and the length of the study. State what the primary outcome was and any pertinent secondary outcomes. Include results from the primary outcome and other pertinent secondary or safety outcomes. Patient education regarding the medication. Limit this information to three pertinent patient counseling points.
