Online Toy Workshop Analysis

This workshop will allow students to apply knowledge of normal childhood development and determine the age-appropriateness of each toy.  In this online learning workshop, students must select THREE toys/activities/games from home, dealing with three various different developmental ages, post their rationale and findings online, and comment/respond to 5 other students’ posts.

Toys should be for the following age groups:   Infancy, Toddlerhood, Preschoolers, School-age, Adolescents

Please do not choose electronic games.

Students will be required to complete an analysis of the appropriateness/inappropriateness of each of the three toys/activities/games they selected for this workshop. This will require the application of life span psychology theory and childhood developmental concepts.

A worksheet is provided (below) to assist with gathering the required information for this analysis.  The student must then synthesize the information gathered to devise a recommendation regarding each of the particular toys/activities/games, as to whether it should continue to be marketed for its age group.  If your determination is that a toy is inappropriate, you must provide a rationale and recommendation for modifying the toy to better suit that age group.

-The three toy’s/games/activities:

  1. , so there is time for other students to respond to them-Points will be deducted if late.
  • All three posts must be posted separately – each in their own post!
  • Worksheet/analysis page Must contain fully developed sentences!

The five responses are of other students’ toys/activities/games.  These responses (agree/disagree-why/why not, learned something new, etc.…) are of the analysis provided by the other students. 

-The 5 responses:

a. Be done by the last date listed of the scheduled week, on your Course Schedule.

b. Must contain fully developed sentences!

c. Must explain the rationale of agreement or disagreement.

Students need to refer to their Course Schedule for the due date.  The workshop will be open on the first date of the scheduled week, and all work must be completed by the last date shown, of that scheduled week. The analysis and comments must be typed in complete fully developed sentences and with appropriate grammar structure. 

This is an interactive assignment and must be done in real-time. Failure to submit your analysis and comments by the specified times will result in a “0” for those sections and affect the overall grade of this project.

The Toy Workshop Analysis grade will be averaged with all other course projects to total 30% of the final grade.
