Previous declining enrollments have been exacerbated since the COVID-19 pandemic. While the outlook for some have been mixed overall, the reality for Black and Latino college men have continued to decline, especially in certain regions of the country. Your readings provide a foundation for the problem and suggest some possible strategies for addressing not just enrollment, but most importantly retention and graduation.
You have recently assumed the position of Dean of Students at a large, wellendowed, minority serving institution in Atlanta. In an effort to address social Justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion your Provost has asked you to clearly identify the following in a detailed Table:
Your response is not required to be in paper format, rather, you are being asked to create a table to include these 4 deliverables (problems, solutions, stakeholders, outcomes in year 1, 2 and 3), in as much detail as necessary to respond to the question.
1. 5 major problems currently preventing these college men from matriculating due to the developing circumstances as a result of COVID.
2. Providing 5 clear and practical solutions to address each of the 5 problems.
3. Please be sure to identify the stakeholders that need to be involved.
4. Include what your expected outcomes would look like in the next 3 years, based on your modest projections of outcomes.
The overarching goal is finding meaningful ways of graduating greater numbers of college men of color through programs, initiatives and greater more targeted support.
