What impact did stereotypical labeling “in and out” groups have on Thandie Newton?  How did she overcome this negative impact to learn to appreciate her own identity? Summarize the themes and outcomes. What confirms or challenges your experience?  How much these results could be generalized to teen populations that you know?   What are the implications for the classroom?  Apply the KY Framework for Teaching (KYFft), InTASC, or one of the Kentucky Teacher Performance Standards.

APA Tips

The American Psychological Association (APA) style asks you to give an abbreviated citation in your paragraph and a full citation at the end of your answer.   You need to give a citation anytime that you refer to a specific source.

In-text references

In-text citations should be given every time you use a particular reference.  One way to avoid repeating in a single paragraph is to begin the paragraph or sentence with reference.  For example, you might say “Bachman, O’Malley, Freedman-Doan, Trzesniewski, and Donnellan (2012)) studied ___ and found that … ” so that you do not have to cite that at the end of sentences.   Here is a good source for citing in-text: http://blog.apastyle.org/apastyle/2013/04/when-to-include-the-year-in-citations-appearing-more-than-once-in-a-paragraph.html

If you begin with the authors, then it is for example

Newton (2011) says that …

If you use it only as a reference then end your sentence and say (Gibbs, 2014).    Note that the period is after the reference and not before it.

According to APA, if there are three to five authors, then you cite all the first time and just the first et al. after that.  So the first reference if in a paragraph is Bachman, O’Malley, Freedman-Doan, Trzesniewski, and Donnellan (2012)

If at the end of a sentence, put the period to the right of the parentheses as in (Bachman, O’Malley, Freedman-Doan, Trzesniewski, & Donnellan, 2012).

After the first time, you say (Bachman et al., 2012).

If referring to a TED talk accessed from youtube then the citation is different.  http://blog.apastyle.org/apastyle/2016/02/how-to-cite-a-ted-talk-in-apa-style.html

End of text citations for this assignment, but just cut and paste the ones that you use…
