Essay Prompt:
The Plague by Albert Camus has powerful implications for the present. There is more to the “plague” than a horrible disease in Oran in the 1940s or even the Nazi occupation that was really Camus‘s inspiration for his novel. Imagine that you have been thinking about how there are serious plagues in the world now in 2013 and that there are still reasons for the need for resistance, which was one of the major themes of that book. Imagine further that you have the opportunity to develop these ideas in an essay for a major student journal distributed nationally to some of the most outstanding undergraduates in the nation.
Specifically, show how The Plague by Albert Camus applies to our times and how we have our own plagues in the early 21st century. On which specific “plague” (I choose to talk about racism) would you select to focus your attention? Which two characters from The Plague by Albert Camus would you select to commence and implement a resistance against the plague (racism)? Develop this thesis carefully and use details from the novel where appropriate, extrapolating them to the contemporary example you choose in your essay.
No need to use “magic words” just use simple words 🙂
