What to read: Chapter 1
Ferrante, J. (2016). Seeing Sociology An Introduction, (3rd Edition). Independence, KY: Cengage Publishing. ISBN-13: 9781305094369
What to write about:
Imagine you are teaching the 3 sociological perspectives to a student who was new to the class. How would you describe the perspectives in your own words? Make sure to integrate material from your textbook in the form of a quote and/ or paraphrase and use correct APA citations.
Requirements:
- Your paper must have 1 page for the draft and and 2 pages for the paper, double-spaced and typed. Please use Times New Roman, 12-point font size. You must also include a full end citation for sources used at the end of your writing. It should be cited in APA format.
- You must use material from the textbook to support your ideas. You may paraphrase and quote as needed. Don’t forget to cite your source within your paper and as an end citation. For more details, visit the Course Documents tab to left of the screen.
- You must submit a draft of your paper at midterm. Type your rough draft in word, save it as a doc file or docx file, and then attach the draft to your post. In addition, please copy and paste the contents from word to discussion board, and submit in the DB Forum, on time. You must put the text of the document into the Discussions Message area. Posting only the link to the document is not acceptable.
- Your final draft is due during finals week. Please save your final paper in .docx format and submit under the Learning Unit 16.
Helpful Hints for writing your paper:
Create an outline – used to create a map for the writer. This will take only a few minutes, but will save you so much time!
Introduction: First paragraph which invites the reader to be interested in your paper AND gives the reader a “map” for where you are going.
- Something interesting about the topic to draw the reader in.
- Thesis statement: This paper will discuss . . .
Body: The “meat” of your paper where you introduce your new material and arguments. This is the only place in the paper to introduce new material to your reader.
Conclusion: This is where you “wrap it up” for your reader. It is important for you to give your reader closure. The conclusion may include a review of what the paper covered.
