Need to write a 4-page essay about renaissance poet John Donne‘s line in “Meditation XVII” where he says, “No man is an island.”
I must do three things:
1.Identify the poem from which the line comes from and explain the overall theme of the poem and what this line contributes to the theme. Need to also identify the type of poem it is and discuss the poet or the circumstances of the time.
THEN
2. Discuss the poem as it relates to some other time. Perhaps it reminds me (an 18 year old girl)of something else I’ve read or a story from history.Perhaps the poem evokes thoughts of contemporary attitudes in society. Perhaps the line sounds like something someone would say today. Does it soind like saddam, for insatnce, or Bush?
THEN
3. Discuss the poem as it relates to some personal experience or observation. Does it relate to something in my past, or present life? Can you relate it to my hopes of the future, either personally, or for my generation?
