This assignment is designed to give you opportunity to examine two distinct instruments currently being used in research which are intended to measure similar latent constructs (reading achievement, trust, self-esteem, technology awareness, comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, etc.). Students will use extant research as well as their own insights to provide a detailed discussion of the differences/similarities in the two instruments on both an item-by-item and global level.
This assignment should be approximately 8-10 pages including the instrument or examples of the assessment items being compared.
Some examples:
1) Two cold comprehension tests
2) Two Benchmarks measuring the same standards
3) ARP vs. Lexia Diagnostic
4) EAGLE items vs District Assessment
5) Louisiana Believes Practice Test vs. district created test
6) Comparing two units from Louisiana Believes that assesses the same
standards
For example, in my district we have Lexia Reading and SRI that both measure comprehension. I could compare/contrast the components and the assessment overall. I could also use Eagle items vs. IXL math to compare two of their assessments. I have district test that are aligned to the LEAP practice test ( I could compare both).
What should your assignment contain?
1. Detail descriptions of the assessment overall and item by item using a
table of specifications/blueprint.
2. A lengthy reflection comparing/contrasting the assessments.
3. Research to back your overall opinion of the assessments.
4. Table of specifications for each assessment
5. Any information you feel is important to measure and compare each
instrument.
