This assignment is broken into 2 parts. Remember to treat each part as if it was its own paper. Remember to include an introduction, conclusion, and write in 3rd person as 1st person assumes bias, according to APA.
Part One Assignment Topic: Interpret Diversity in Forming a Sense of Community
Take time to observe the level of diversity in your community. Pay attention to the different groups of people and the activities they partake in. Diversity can be observed everywhere, from your work environment to attending church, to the weekly errands that you must complete. Did you observe any instances where diversity was disrespected; or did you sense a level of respect in a specific situation? Have you visited a senior citizen center or nursing home? Have you visited a school? Note how these populations may be treated differently from the general population. Keep these notes as you may need them in preparing this week’s assignment as well as your Signature Assignment.
Then, prepare a report on the sense of diversity in your community, which you will also use for your Signature Assignment.
Analyze your selected community in terms of these elements. Also, note if the community you studied included members from diverse backgrounds. How do you perceive the level of diversity affecting a sense of community? Focus on the needs and abilities of these diverse groups. Be sure to keep your responses neutral and free from bias. Provide specific findings, examples, or observations to support your response.
Support your report with at least five peer-reviewed research articles published in the past 5 years. In addition to these specified resources, other appropriate scholarly resources, including seminal articles, may be included.
Length 4 pages, not reference pages.
Note for the writer: My community is primarily African American, however African Americans are the minority when it relates to places to shop, education, jobs, and home-ownership. My particular neighborhood was designed for elderly, handicapped, and disabled with a 60-40 “set-aside” rule. This means no less than 60% of the residence have to fall under the “elderly, handicapped, and disabled” and 40 % of the residence do not. One area where diversity is often held to a high regard is this particular neighborhood because the area has low crime and because of the majority population (—elderly, handicapped, and disabled).

Part Two Assignment Topic: Assess Research on the Impact of a Primary Prevention Program
Locate at least five peer-reviewed articles addressing an education or mental health prevention program that has been used successfully in an African American community setting. Present these in an annotated bibliography format. Include, if provided, the following information for each:
- What is the general population being studied (any demographics: were these mostly in the U.S., what ethnic group is represented, etc.)?
- How was the sample selected (Were all respondents used? Was the selection random?)?
- How was the questionnaire used tested (what were the psychometric properties of the data collection instrumentation)?
- What statistical method was used to analyze the data?
- What were the findings (include their strength and direction, plus any identified ethical concerns)?
- What was your assessment of the study design?
- How do these findings fit within your area of interest?
Add a paragraph that elaborates on how you believe one of these prevention programs might work or be applied within your community. Provide detailed examples that explain why, based on your topic for the Signature Assignment.
