In this assignment, you will begin to describe the various contexts that surround your text. This is just a starting point for this part of the final paper.

The paper should include the following sections:

  1. The text: Give the name/title of the text.
  2. Describe the text: Make a bulleted list of descriptors of your text using a planned survey and/or questions (pp. 47-52).
  3. Specific circumstances: Write one paragraph explaining a relevant specific circumstance surrounding the text (pp. 54-55). You should refer to (and cite) at least one high-quality source as the basis for your explanation of the specific circumstance.
  4. Similar circumstances: Write one paragraph explaining a similar circumstance to the one you wrote about in #2 above (pp. 55-56). You should refer to (and cite) at least one high-quality source as the basis for your explanation of the specific circumstance.
  5. Similar messages: List three similar messages (pp. 55-56), and write one sentence for each, explaining why that message is like the text you are studying.
  6. Most relevant similar message: Pick the most relevant similar message from #4 above and write one paragraph describing that message and explaining why it is like your text (in more detail than your one sentence in #4). You should refer to (and cite) at least one high-quality source as the basis for your explanation of the specific circumstance.
  7. The rhetor: Write one paragraph about the rhetor (p. 56). Who is the rhetor? What background information about her or him might help understand the text you are studying? Have they created other similar texts? You should refer to (and cite) at least one high-quality source as the basis for your explanation of the specific circumstance.
  8. The audience: Write one paragraph about the audience (pp. 56-57). Who is the intended audience? What is the relationship between the audience and the rhetor? You should refer to (and cite) at least one high-quality source as the basis for your explanation of the specific circumstance.
  9. Text/context interaction: Write one paragraph explaining what you think is the text/context interaction (pp. 60-65).

As you should with any written work, make sure that you write well (grammar, word choice, spelling, etc.). Also, follow general APA or MLA guidelines for manuscript preparation, to be sure that your work is formatted consistently (margins, line spacing, use of page numbers, etc.). Since you are required to cite sources in this paper, you need to include a reference or works cited page at the end of the assignment (follow MLA or APA guidelines).

Make each section (1-8 above) section headings, and then write in sentences and paragraphs in each section.
