Figure 10-2 – Operations Manual (OM)
Midterm Exam – I lieu of a series of research questions/issues that seek answers from you, ordinarily drawn from the textbook or outside reading, the final exam for this course is your completion of each question section in the sample Operations Manual (OM) illustrated in Figure 10-2 in our text:
Sections I – V
- Select a Franchise Operation of your choice.
- In our text (Attached in Instructions 10-2) you will find a sample operations manual that may serve as a get-ready “business plan” to prepare for & launch most any franchise operation. Review each section & associated subsection:
- Objective: to reach a comprehensive understanding of the strategic planning & operational processes of the franchise, based upon your research & analysis, & develop a comprehensive report reflecting your understanding of the topical issues.
- You may research your answers online, through an interview with a local franchise, leading to the completion of each section. All work, of course, is to be original.
- Consider the topic of each section (& subsection), and through cognitive thinking … using the who, what, when, where, why how, why not approach … provide a 2 – 3 sentence (minimum) explanation of what the topic refers to & why it is important to the franchise operation that you have selected.
- Follow the OM exactly as it is sequenced in the text: no variation. Feel free to elaborate, as needed.
Additional Information
- Review each topical section & provide a 2-3 sentence response explaining the topic/application/need/requirement for the franchise that you’ve chosen. “How is the franchise addressing this issue?” may be a frequent starting point for each section.
- “Volume” isn’t everything. Your research, logic & thoughtful reply are most important.
- Very few “N/A” (not applicable) sections, though there may be a few, depending upon the selected franchise.
- Research what is needed; place references per APA at the end.
- If a response is likely to be lengthy or repetitive, (e.g.: franchise warranties), summarize the section(s) in a shorter statement/explanation.
- APA formatting, spell/grammar check is required.
Success Measure: Research Question Essay Style, collegiate level thought & analysis; level of research; completeness of analysis & resulting detail per section.
