Assignment overview:
This is a group project where you will compare and analyze the financial results of two different

ratios and financial statements analysis.
Overall aim:
To analyze the performance of different companies through the use of ratio analysis and to
make investment decisions based on that analysis.

Resources Available:

https://finance.yahoo.com/
or visit the official websites of the companies.
Tasks, Organization and Grading:
This is a group written report with a presentation. The groups of 5 to7 analysts will need to
research the 2016, 2015 and 2014 fiscal years annual reports of 2 hospitality companies (10-k
annual reports are available online on the respective company’s website).
The financial section of the annual report should be analyzed through financial statements
analysis and ratios, with specific emphasis on; Liquidity, Solvency, Activity and Profitability. A
maximum of 16 ratios should be used (with a minimum of 2 ratios for each of the 4 sections).
You also have to comment on the change in each firm’s position from one year to the other
based on the ratios calculated for those years. Any calculations performed have to be referred
to in the text. The analysis needs to explain the factors that would be of interest to a creditor
(lender) and shareholders, and to provide possible explanations for significant fluctuations in the
numbers. The group should use management’s discussion contained in the annual report to
support any explanations.
The conclusion of the report should be a recommendation, whether to invest in each of the
companies through lending money or buying shares. The recommendation could also be for
example not to invest at all. The conclusions should be based only on the analysis made, and
there is no need to study stock markets, bond markets or alternative returns. Please note that
just like in real life the analyses made on the same company by different analysts vary, also
here there is no single right answer. The grading of the conclusions section will be based on the
ability to use the analysis made to support logical and realistic recommendations towards
creditors and potential investors.
