Discussion Question #4: Intensity or Extensity?
Robert Greene tells us in his book The 48 Laws of Power that a great and wise leader conserves their forces and energies by keeping them concentrated at their strongest point. Why? Because intensity is a far more powerful creative force than extensity**. What do you believe is meant by this assertion? Do you agree? Why or why not?
** – Greene calls this “extensity”. (I highly recommend his fascinating book for a candid, no-holds-barred perspective on power and leadership. It is definitely not one for the faint-hearted.)
Discussion Question #5: Blake and Mouton’s Leadership Grid
Select one of the following leadership styles from Blake and Mouton’s Leadership Grid and provide a scenario – real or imagined (give plenty of detail) – to illustrate a circumstance under which your chosen style would be the appropriate one. Be sure to not only describe the scenario, but also justify why the particular model is best for it. (You’ll find this grid in Chapter 4.)
Choose from:
Country Club Management
Impoverished Management
Authority Compliance Management
(The other two are no-brainers folks. That is why I am not including those as options. Gotta stretch those minds.)
