Explosion of Different Comedy Films Sub-genres
In the 1980’s, the comedy films exploded into different sub-genres mainly because of a need for diversification. With the rapid globalization, the films audience possessed evolving needs and preferences. Therefore, the comedy domain was necessitated with the role of offering different sub-genres that could fit the preferences of different audience. Previously, comedy films were only subdivided into two formats which included comedian led films and situation comedies which were normally told in narratives (Comedy Films, 2017). It can be argued that the comedy audience was getting used with one type of comedy genre hence the comedy films were becoming monotonous. As such, there was a need to add variety in comedy films domain as a way of adding different genres for people to choose from. Moreover, there was a need to attract more viewers into the comedy market films hence this could be ensured through adding diversity. The explosion led to various subgenres such as romantic comedy, social class comedy, military comedy, gross out comedy, sports comedy, and coming of age comedy.
The comedy films market was one of the most-steady growing industry where most of the individuals who invested in film industry saw an opportunity for investing. As such, they were attracted to this market and saw an opportunity of making more money in the film industry. To avoid competition by majoring in one film genre, there was a need of being creative and innovative, hence, leading to explosion of more subgenres. Through introduction of more subgenres, the comedy film industry became extensive and could accommodate more entrepreneurs in film industry. Therefore, due to economic demand, the comedy film industry exploded to different subgenres. Rather than majoring in situation comedies which were seen as standard films in comedy domain, different directors opted to try new ideas and introduced new subgenres (Comedy Films, 2017). This evolvement set a platform in the films’ industry where people venturing in this domain are open minded up to date. Therefore, more is expected in comedy films industry and doors are still open for more creativity and innovation through introduction of more sub genres.
