These are the exact details. The book is Julius Caesar. Brutus is the character that I have to analyze. The essay has to be a focused evaluation of him. The observation should reflect careful thought and analysis of Brutus. Look at the characters words and actions. What traits are revealed? Look at his relationship with others. What traits are revealed? Look at others opinions of Brutus. What traits are revealed? Your observation must be supportable. You must be able to support your observation with evidence from the text. What details support your
point of view? What details may be contrary to or go against your point of view? Your observations will be the focus of your thesis statement. Your thesis statement will be the last sentence of your first paragraph. Your thesis statement must be specific. You must use support paragraphs to explain your thesis. Each support paragraph should start with a topic sentence that states the focus of that paragraph. The topic sentence must be specific. Each support paragraph will include specific support for your topic. There must be a minimum of 2 specific quotations per paragraph. Cite quotations. After each quotation, use parenthetical citations. Since this is Shakespeare, you must cite by act, scene, and line numbers. An example would be-” A citation for Act three, scene two, lines 25-29 would look like the citation following this sentence” (lll.ii.25-29). Your conclusion will address the final question- so what? What does your observation raise outside of the text? This essay should be five paragraphs.
