For this assignment, you will complete research in the natural and social sciences. You will then document and assess your research.
Please review the handout on possible course themes before you begin!
Once you’ve selected a topic, you need to find two academic sources relating to the topic. Most likely you will need to use the library’s e-database to make sure you find a credible, peer-reviewed sources from academic journals. The key is to assess the journal in which they are published; for example, if it’s from the Journal of Sociology, then it’s from the social sciences; however, if it’s from the Journal of Biology, it’s from the natural sciences. If in doubt about the discipline of your research, please contact me.
After you’ve found and reviewed your sources, you will compose an annotation that
summarizes and evaluates your source. You will use APA format.
The annotation will assess your source’s accuracy, relevance, and research application.
For each source annotation, you will:
- Compose an APA citation.
- Write a short paragraph (75-100 words) that summarizes the article (none of your own analysis/opinion).
- Write a short paragraph (75-100 words) that assesses the article. Here, you will briefly evaluate the quality of the article and how it broadens your understanding of the topic. You will also discuss how it fits the discipline standards.
Note: You will be assessed based on the quality of your research, the appropriateness of your APA style, and the effectiveness of your writing. Please use “OWL at Purdue APA” to format your APA style and citation. Your textbook also includes this information and samples.
