THEME: Settlement service
Topic : HOUSING
Description: The purpose of this paper is to critically analyze one area of settlement and integration of immigrants and refugees, in Canada and how processes within this area are impacted (either negatively or positively) by existing policies, service delivery models, and popular rhetoric towards migrant populations. Students will be able to deepen their understanding of the broad constellation of settlement services, as well as barriers and service gaps that prevent the full and equitable participation of migrant populations in Canadian society.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Choose one area of settlement services: Students should choose one of the areas of settlement to focus their paper on. (AREA CHOSEN IS HOUSING)

- Your introduction is a roadmap to your paper. Make sure to clearly state what you intend to cover in your paper and the reason why you choose this area/topic.
Step 2: Main Body. While researching your chosen area of settlement, make sure to integrate course content, weekly related readings, as well as at least three governments and academic research/articles to the paper. To do so, the structure of your paper should follow these sub-heading and general questions:
- one page) – Provide an overview of the area of settlement chosen, highlighting its importance while outlining some of the main barriers that exist for newcomers within this area. What are some of the main organizations/services/programs that are supporting newcomers within housing settlement service? What policies exist (if any) to support this area and organizations providing related services? How does funding impact service delivery?
- one page) – By incorporating readings from course content, as well as external research, address some of the main challenges to settlement in your area. Be sure to apply an intersectional/anti-oppressive framework when developing your Analysis. How do these challenges exist along with the micro – mezzo – macro continuum? How do other elements (such as media representation, popular rhetoric, federal/provincial/municipal policies, and/or global trends) shape service delivery within this area? Who can access services in this area? Who is left out?
- one page) – What programs, service models, research, reports exist to counter the challenges within your chosen area? What promising practices exist within these interventions? What is missing? Based on your research, what recommendations would you make to address the barriers?
- half a page). Discuss what lessons you have learned from writing this paper that will make you a better Social service worker (SSW).
Organization: Your paper must include the heading, sub-heading, a title page, table of content, page numbers, and include APA style referencing and citations.
NOTE: ALL QUESTIONS IN EACH CATEGORIES MUST BE ADDRESSED.
