Individual Reflection: Preparing for working in teaching communities

Adapted from the AITSL (2017) Self-Assessment Tool (SAT), this part of assessment one provides you with an opportunity to familiarise with using the professional standards for self-reflection on your professional practice and engagement.

NOTE: You MUST use the template on page 2 and submit this as a word document to Turnitin.

You must delete this first instruction page before submitting as this will impact on your word count if it is uploaded to Turnitin.

We also recommend you download the SAT APP for future reference and use at:

The template has been formatted to use Calibri font size 12 and 1.5 spacing. Do not change this format

Professional Engagement Domain
Engage professionally with colleagues, parents, carers and the community
In this 350–word section you will:

·   Include an annotated and labelled photo of you presenting with your group that can be added to your learning portfolio as data.

·   Reflect on your presentation in terms of your current skills (i.e. how did you contribute, what was your role, how achieved your role) and how you could further improve.

Consider the following points from APST to develop your response.

·   The value of working collaboratively with a group for planning and building relationships with colleagues.  You may also choose to comment on how the experience has assisted you to understand the importance of networking and communicating in primary school communities (APST 7.4).

·   Briefly relate this experience to what you will need to consider when organising group work in your future primary school classroom. You can be honest about your experience but comments MUST remain free of names, be respectful and professional (APST 3.4).

Professional Practice Domain
Plan for and implement effective teaching and learning
In this 500–word section you will:

·   Include an annotated and labelled photo of you at the field site that can be added to your learning portfolio as data.

·   Reflect on the importance and value of planning field sites for inquiry based teaching and learning experiences. This reflection and the photo data can be added to your learning portfolio as evidence. Draw on your textbook (Reynolds, 2014), any PFP stimulus (cite the source not the PFP number) and the HSIE Syllabus (NESA, 2107) to support your reflections here.

·   Reflect on your presentation skills in view of your future teaching profession using the SWOT analysis format (explanation of the SWOT strategy is available on VUWS in support assessment one folder).
