The Assignment: Answer the following prompt in a 3-4 page paper, following the requirements and guidelines outlined in this assignment sheet.
Research Prompt: What are the three most important things about ancient Mesopotamian society that historians can learn from the Code of Hammurabi (primary source)? What are the limitations of Code of Hammurabi as a primary source to learn about ancient Mesopotamia?
Explain your answer. Sources: In your paper, you must have at least ONE citation from the following:
• Secondary source: You must use information (and cite) at least once from the “Overview” for the Code of Hammurabi in Milestone Documents in World History, pgs. 15-21. This document is linked on Blackboard.
• Primary source: You must use information (and cite) at least once from the translation of the Code of Hammurabi found in Milestone Documents in World History, pgs. 23-31.
Remember that this is a minimum and you will probably need to use (and cite) both the primary and secondary source sections more than once.
You are welcome to use other reliable sources IN ADDITION to these sources, but they must be cited in MLA format (both in-text citations and in the Works Cited.)
• Your paper should be at least 3 FULL pages, not including the works cited page. The paper should be double spaced, in a 12-point font, and use one-inch margins. Use MLA format
• The organization of your paper should follow standard essay format, including an introductory paragraph with a thesis statement, body paragraphs with clear topic sentences, properly cited evidence with analysis, and a conclusion.
• Your thesis statement should be a summary of your response and answers to the research prompt. Your thesis can be more than one sentence because you are answering more than one question in your paper.
