Writing #4A: Is Cracking down on immigration “American?
A review of the history of immigration to the United States has clearly demonstrated that immigrants often encountered difficult social and economic conditions, limited opportunities, discrimination and isolation, when they came to this country. As greater numbers of immigrants from diverse ethnic and racial groups came to the United States they encountered heightened discrimination. New immigration was set in motion by economic and political changes that occurred throughout the world, and was given added impetus by changes in the immigration polices of the United States since 1965. It has also greatly increased the racial and ethnic diversity of the United States. Not only are there significant differences in appearance, culture, education, and skills between the native Whites and the majority of the new immigrants, but also significant differences among the new immigrant groups themselves. This essay will require you to explore the future face of the US, and continued relations between all groups that form part of the nation.
