I need a (4) four-page essay on the World Literature course.
There are two separate questions that need to be answered.
Please use two pages per question.
I’ll include all the literature textbook materials.
INSTRUCTIONS:
1)
Literature is often a window into the society in which it was created. It mirrors society and addresses the concerns of the day, as well as celebrating contemporary achievements. You have now read both the introduction to the Restoration and the eighteenth century and representative literature from that period. Identify three social problems or customs from the period and choose a piece of literature (I chose “A Modest Proposal” by Jonathan Swift, pages 430-437) that reflects those problems or comments on them and explain how the piece you’ve chosen reflects the social values or customs.
Your response should be written in paragraph form and should be supported with specific, concrete details from the text. Your answer will be graded on the quality of your writing as well as the completeness and correctness of your response.
2)
Satire is a kind of writing that ridicules human vice or folly for the purpose of social reform. Each satirist writes to accomplish a specific purpose, in addition to the general purpose of achieving some kind of reform.
For this essay, you will discuss three purposes (general and specific) for satire and three methods used by satirists to achieve their purposes. For each method or technique listed, I’d like you to provide two examples of each technique. You should include at least one example from each satire you’ve read (“A Modest Proposal,” “The Rape of the Lock,” Candide, and Don Quixote). Please organize your response so that it is written in paragraph form.
For example, satirists use humor to achieve their (general) purpose of reforming social customs. Humor is used by Cervantes in Don Quixote when . . .(specific example of humor and an explanation of how this accomplishes the purpose of the satirist). Read pages 430-437, 453-459, 467-470, 475-479
There are faxes for this order.
