This week’s asynchronous discussion, activities, and readings will focus on an educational technology of your choice What tool did we mention in class that you want to learn more about? Is there a tool that we completely neglected? An app? A mobile device? A social media? An online assessment tool? ! (I am thinking of using facebook for new BSN students in Introduction to Psychiatric nursing) It’s your week to choose what you read, watch, and learn about and share it with your colleagues in the course.
Learning Goals
By the end of this week students will:
- practice researching educational technology and best practices
- discuss challenges, benefits, and best practices for using one educational technology that we have not discussed previously (or thoroughly) in class
Activities
1. Select: Pick one educational technology you want to learn more about.
2. Research: Find 3-4 helpful resources (she said they do not all have to be peer reviewed) that explain what the technology is, how it is being used to help students learn, and challenges or benefits to using that technology in college teaching.
3. Prepare: As you research your technology, plan ahead. You will be asked to share the resources and information you discovered on the Discussion Board this week. What do your colleagues need to know about this technology? What will they find helpful in deciding if that technology might help students learn in their courses? What challenges should they prepare to face if they decide to implement it in their course(s)
In your post for this week:
- Describe/define the technology you chose to research.
- Discuss ways this technology could be implemented to help students learn.
- Who should consider using this technology? Everyone? Faculty teaching certain disciplines? Certain student populations?
- What challenges should faculty prepare to face if they decide to implement it in their course(s)?
- Are there best practices to keep in mind?
Don’t forget to end your post with references and resources for your colleagues who may want to learn more.
Also ask your colleagues one question about the technology to keep the discussion going!
