We are pleased to announce our annual Latino Social Work Coalition Scholarship Program for 2020-2021. This program provides scholarships to Latino men and women with significant financial need residing in the New York metropolitan area that have been accepted or are enrolled in a master’s level program at one of the following accredited schools of social work:
About me to mention:
I am a Latina women who was born and raised by two immigrant parents from the Dominican Republic. I grew up in Washington Heights which is a neighborhood that mostly consists of Hispanics. Growing up in this neighborhood really taught me how important it is to work and give back to me neighborhood. I also lost my mom to cancer my Sophomore year of college and by my junior year in college my dad was diagnosed with cancer and ever since my college life changed forever when I had to pick up two jobs. One is full time and the other part-time. (NOW I dont have any because of covid19)
Two examples of me giving back id through two volunteer programs I work with.
1. Latinas On the Verge of Excellence: The Latinas On the Verge of Excellence – L.O.V.E. Mentoring Program supports and empowers young Latinas to strive for success, both in school and in life, through health interventions targeted at mental, reproductive and physical health as well as career readiness and mentorship.
2. Mentor for the NYU SPS ASPIRE program. A two-year college preparatory program that empowers local high school students to become first-generation college students. NYUSPS Aspire is a scholarship program for rising high school juniors and seniors from underrepresented communities who will be first-generation college students
