The family

The increase in the number of domestic violence remains a worrying trend today. The key contributor to this trend is the change that today’s families have gone through economically, socially, politically, and culturally. In the 18th century, most of the American marriages were grounded on love as the major cultural ideal; thus, formed the structure of the family (Eshleman & Bulcroft, 2010). This was a major change as compared to the Stone and Middle Ages where marriage was not based on love with the individuals involved having less power over whom to marry. In the 19th century, the notion that the man is the breadwinner and the woman is the homemaker became famous following the changing economy (Eshleman & Bulcroft, 2010). However, during the economic growth after the end of the World War II, cultural ideals about the family rose, leading to many young people getting into marriage and having many children. All these economic, political, cultural, and social changes lead to a different perception of the word family.

There are specific roles that a family is supposed to deliver to the society. These roles differentiate the definition of the family as perceived by the societal roles. The instrumental role of a family is to provide economic resources as well as nurturing and supporting the family members. With such roles, the definition of a family moves from the individual level to the society level, where the married couples should make positive contributions to the society (Eshleman & Bulcroft, 2010). Besides, it is the role of a family to develop skills by providing education to their children and help them grow their careers. This role reveals the mandate that the family members have over the others.

With this being said, I feel that marriage is a key factor yielding a family. At a personal level, I see family as a result of love between a couple that leads to giving birth or adoption. However, I fail to relate my perception with the current instances such as divorces and conflict.

Discussion Two

The purpose of the code is to provide sensitization and educational guidelines for the families to relate together peacefully. The code acknowledges that the family is the fundamental unit of society and that diversity should be enforced at this level (Reinke & Walcheski, 2015). Correspondingly, the code has shed some light on the role that families play in making a positive change in the society by embracing ethical behaviors (Reinke & Walcheski, 2015). In the coming future, I see myself as a stern social scientist because I have a great interest in learning about the societal forces and moves that enhance the relationship between persons, as they are the key to a firm society. My social scientist stance in future also lies on the great urge that I have to a diversified society, where people of different ethnic, race, and gender should join their forces and pursue societal goals for a sustainable society. Additionally, I dislike discrimination while upholding respect to all societal groups.

With the masterly of this code of ethics, I feel confident on the basis under which I establish my relationship with different people in the society. The ability to relate with people in different ways has enabled me to live a peaceful life with less conflict from the people around me. Moreover, this attribute will help me in future when carrying field research. This is in the case when I am seeking to extract information from a diversified group of people. Besides, the attribute will prove its worthiness when dealing with a diversified people where I will provide a peaceful, respectful, and an open environment for the participants to share the study information (Reinke & Walcheski, 2015). Currently, I am practicing on the codes where I execute ethical behaviors in society by doing what is ethically right. Besides, this code of ethics has helped in embracing the changes by learning new initiatives and ideas from a diversified population of people whom I relate with daily.
