As a member of a team developing treatment and intervention programs for individuals with challenges in behavior and learning, you will interact with nonbehavioral helping professionals from a wide variety of disciplines (e.g., speech therapists, psychotherapists, social workers, occupational therapists, physical therapists, medical doctors). Almost all human service professions have developed their own ethical guidelines and codes of professional conduct. As Bailey and Burch (2016) note in Chapter 19 (p. 278), “You may soon discover that the other professional with which you deal are not very aware of the ethics code for their field or pay it little heed. Or worse, you may discover that their code of ethics is not very clear on issues regarding client’s rights, use of empirically based procedures, or the evaluation of treatments using data.” For these reasons, in this assignment you will be asked to carefully compare another code of ethics to the BACB Compliance Code. Choose an organization of which you are a member, former member or prospective member, such as APA, CEC, NASW, and so forth. Conduct an Internet search by putting in the name of the organization and “ethics” or the name of a profession (e.g., special education teachers) and “ethics.” Once you’ve located the ethics of practice for that profession, compare that code to the 2016 BACB Compliance Code that you printed/saved for SERP (uploaded with this order). Examine the documents for similarities and differences.
In a narrative of no fewer than 4 but no more than 10 pages, describe the differences and similarities in purpose, principles, format, and level of guidance between the two codes. Explain your perceptions of the reasons for the similarities as well as the differences. Which of the everyday ethical challenges (Bailey & Burch, Chapter 5) faced by behavior analysts would NOT be addressed by the other organization’s code of ethics? What do they (apparently) have to consider that behavior analysts typically do not?
The submission will be evaluated based on thoroughness and degree of consideration. Ensure that your narrative is professionally written and free of typographical and grammatical errors
