Requirements for PowerPoint Presentation

EDUU 551

MUST be based on California K-12 Common Core State Standards or specific academic subject matter standards, National Standards for Foreign Language Instruction (DLI students) or preschool learning foundations (early childhood students!

    • Multiple subject elementary teachers select one curriculum area from the following:
      • Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for ELA – Language Arts
      • Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for Mathematics
      • Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)
      • Social Studies – History/Social Science Standards
    • Single subject secondary teachers select your chosen subject matter area you are planning to teach (taking CSETs or completed subject matter prep program)
    • Early Childhood Students: If you are NOT going for a multiple or single subject credential, you may create your Curriculum PowerPoint based on the California Preschool Learning Foundations
    • Defense Language Institute Students:  Create your Curriculum PowerPoint based on the National Standards for Foreign Language Instruction or California World Languages Standards.
    • MUST focus on student learning!
    • MUST be original!  Start from scratch!  Please do not use a template!

Do NOT use a PowerPoint presentation or template that you find on the web.  This is an exercise in the process of building your own PowerPoint presentation slide by slide.  I realize you can find some very “fancy” PowerPoints online – but I’d rather see that you made it yourself – even if it doesn’t have lots of bells and whistles!  Remember that if you can find something online – your instructor can find it too!

Do NOT use a health or PE topic unless you are working toward a single subject 7-12 PE or Health credential student and you are planning to pass the CSETs in health or PE.

Please do NOT “double-dip” and use a PowerPoint you have created or are creating for another class.  Using work you’ve submitted in another class violates the Brandman academic integrity policy listed in the catalog:  “Students may not submit work done in one course to satisfy the requirements of another course, unless both instructors agree beforehand to accept such work.” Do not submit a health, PE, inclusion, or any other PowerPoint from other classes.

  • Select a curriculum or classroom topic you could present to students.
  • Locate the subject matter content standard you are going to cover.
    • Base your lesson objective on a specific subject matter content standard for one grade level.
    • Include the standard, strand, and grade level on your final resource slide
    • Eight Slides (minimum
    • One Title Slide
      • 8 Title/Bullets (slide layout #2) that provide instruction based on California content standard
      • One Resource Slide with Weblink(s) – Find a curriculum website/s to extend instruction on this topic.  The link must be “hot” so it goes directly to the web resource.
      • Final Slide should include the specific grade level CCSS or subject matter content standard being met with this presentation
    • Each slide must have at least one animated graphic that comes in automatically (auto-timed)
    • All bullets must be animated – either with mouse click or automatic timing.
    • Must have slide transition with mouse click and sound.
    • Must use at least one sound with a graphic animation.
    • Include at least one hyperlink to a website within the presentation.
    • Your instructor may require additional criteria: hyperlinks, embedding video, adding audio clip, etc.
