Read “The Letter from a Birmingham Jail” by Martin Luther King Jr. and chapter five from your textbook. Write a two-page, double-spaced paper in MLA format (with in-text citations and a Works Cited page) on the following question:
What do civil disobedience, moderates, and race mean for King (according to the letter) and the broader civil rights movement (according to the textbook)?
NOTE: A good answer will quote, paraphrase, and cite King and the textbook as much as possible in addressing the questions above. MLA style requires in-text citations that have the author’s last name and page number in parentheses after every fact, quote, or paraphrase cited from the text. King, not West, is the writer of “Letter from a Birmingham Jail”, but West is the editor of the book that contains the “letter” you are using for this paper. Check the rubric prior to writing your answer. Ask questions if you are confused about the assignment. Finally, if you draw on ideas from other sources, you must cite them. Not citing ideas from outside sources will be considered plagiarism and result in a failing grade for this assignment.
