The National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) has many position statements that serve as reference for handling situations that might occur in the practice of athletic training. They also promote the awareness of certain issues by NATA members. While these statements do not give step-by-step instructions of how to handle each situation, they do establish the standard of care for specific injuries, illnesses and medical conditions. These statements evolve and are revised periodically as new research is conducted.
For Assignment 2, the focus will be on environmental concerns including: Lightening Safety, Heat Illness, and Cold Injuries. Pick one of the three to further evaluate and assess then follow the link below. Read your chosen position statement carefully and provide a review of the main topics: Injury or Illness Specifics (mechanism, equipment considerations, etc); Education and Prevention; Evaluation and Care.
Create a PowerPoint presentation to educate future athletic trainers on the information and implications in the position statement you read. This presentation should include all major topics discussed in the position statement. Note: Information should include YOUR INTERPRETATION of the position statements information, not a copy and paste of the actual document (that is an act of plagiarism). Remember to provide a reference list at the end of your presentation and use AMA formatting throughout.
