Instructions for HCS 2202 Lab Report on
Plant Stress Responses
General requirement:
- Font size: 11-12.
- Pictures are OK to include, but leave room for everything else outlined below.
- 1 lab report per person. Reports need to be done individually.
- in Carmen Dropbox.
Penalty: loss of 20 percent of total possible points each day that is late.
Title, Name, Lab Section (5 points)
Main body of the text should include the following 4 section headers and include specific details listed as follows:
- Introduction (20 pts, 5 pts each bullet point):
- Purpose/ objective statement.
- Background information on sunflower.
- Environmental factors that influence plant growth.
- The stress & their possible effect (hypotheses).
- Materials & methods (20 pts, 5 pts each bullet point):
- Plant material, and measurement tools.
- Detail of key dates and their events.
- Detailed methodology employed – how treatments were applied.
- Measurements and statistical methods.
- Results (30 pts):
- Results from the experiment, with appropriate analysis. (10 pts)
- Include figures and/or tables where appropriate. Make sure each figure and table has a title and descriptive caption. All figures and tables should be referred to in text when describing results (20 pts, 5 pts each figure).
- Conclusion & Discussion (20 pts, 5 pts each bullet point):
- Conclusion drawn from the results.
- Discuss reasons why a stress could affect your results in a particular way.
- Include any possible errors.
- Discuss the broader impact.
References (5 points)
Data figure requirements:
- Generate line graphs for stem diameter & stem height.
- Generate bar graphs for leaf area, flower dry weight, and leaf/stem dry weight.
- Add error bars to your graph using standard deviation (SD) values.
- Give titles to X & Y axis (including units where appropriate).
- Add appropriate title to your graph, or alternatively, describe the graph in your legend.
- Describe in the legend that the values in the graph represents the average value, and error bars indicate SD.
