Personal Code of Ethics
Part I: Diary Entries

Today, something happened that placed me in a moral dilemma. I was much confused on what to do. My friend Tod had some money problems. I received a text message from him asking if I could lend him a short loan of $500. I was not sure to say yes or no to this request. The issue is that I lent Tod loans that he has not yet paid back. $500 is the largest amount of money he has requested me to lend him so far. I was torn between helping a friend and not assisting him because he is notorious for not paying back his debts. I chose not to give money him this time. Being honest with him and myself, I told him first to pay up the money he owes me before I could consider lending him more.

Why do Mondays have to be so hectic? I always feel like the day is longer than usual. Something unusual and disturbing happened right in front of me. Sheila, my best friend, happened to be around when I was talking to another girl on campus. The girl’s name is Aubrey, a freshman. We were about to hug with Aubrey when Sheila came out of nowhere, shoved, and slapped Aubrey on the face. I was completely shocked and surprised by the turn of events. The two ladies were about to enter into a fight, but I stopped them. Instead, what I got was a slap on my face from Aubrey. The girls went their way, and I was left with a hurting cheek just because I tried to be responsible.

What a wonderful day it was! I met James, one of my classmates, as I was running errands across town and noticed him selling second-hand items. I approached him, we conversed, and James told me that he was trying to raise money for tuition fee. They were having a difficult time at home, and James had not been able to clear the tuition payment for this semester. I introduced him to an organization that sponsors bright and talented students. He was given the necessary details to contact them later. I felt happy because I helped someone undergoing a difficult situation so that he can fully focus on studying, thereby, getting good grades, and bettering his life. I hope he will get the assistance.

I was in the park today relaxing when I noticed that someone had forgotten his or her wallet on a bench. I looked for the person, but the individual was long gone. I picked the wallet and looked for any contact information when I noticed almost a dozen $100 notes and a campus student ID card. I was tempted to take the cash and throw the wallet in the bin, but I could not bring myself to do such a thing. I found a business card that had his contact information. I called him, we met, and I gave him his wallet. I have never seen someone happier.

Today, I went to the library to find information that would help me complete an assignment, but what I got was not relevant. I used the library computers to find resourceful information from the net. Luckily, I got some relevant results for the search queries I requested. However, one of the results was a paper similar to the assignment I was trying to complete. I was tempted to submit the paper as my own and forego doing the assignment. I was torn between going the hard or easy way. Lucky for me, I do believe in hard work. I did the assignment on my own, and I am going to submit it in the coming week. I hope I get good points for my hard work.
