Paulina is a 32-year-old white female diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, well-known to mental health agencies. She claims she was 15 years old when she first had mental health hospitalisation. For years, Paulina has been in and out of psychiatric facilities for a significant portion of her existence. When Paulina was ten, her parents separated, leaving her with a challenging upbringing. She admitted seeing her father beat up her mother, brother and herself. The violence Paulina witnessed as a kid affected her views about using violence to resolve disputes. Paulina claims that her parents’ separation left her feeling abandoned and angry. She has experienced several violent encounters with medical personnel and patients, too. Paulina exhibits distressing and bothersome aural hallucinations, extreme paranoia, and delusions. She often finds the material to be terrifying and highly distressing. Paulina’s emotional state has hampered her ability to perform everyday tasks. Her social circle is small, she does not take care of herself, and she does not have many close friends besides her younger brother, mother and father. She has had little work exposure because of prolonged stays in hospitals.
