Aim
This course aims to deepen the students’ knowledge of pathophysiology and
characteristics of acutely ill adults and appraise effective care.
Learning outcomes
By the end of this course students will be able to:
- Characterise and critically appraise the processes of holistic systematic assessment of acutely ill adult patients.

Critically appraise the evidence relating to the issue and explore the role of the multi-disciplinary team and the impact on patients and their families. Conclude with key recommendations for practice and research.
Guidelines for Summative Assessment
The assignment which will demonstrate your understanding of a clinical practice issue, aims to test and develop your:
- Grasp of relevant theory
- Ability to apply theory to practice and discuss its relevance
- Knowledge of pertinent literature
- Writing skills.
The topic is about Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) management using prone position as an intervention in critical care areas.
Important key elements
- Introduction: it is common diseases in critical care units, life-threating illness (200 words).
- Background: ARDS definition, critical care patients with multi organs failure, and finally pathophysiology in brief (400 – 500 words).
- Searching strategy: for example, CINHAL, PubMed or Midline databases. Dates of the chosen articles. etc (150 – 200 words).
