| Patient Case Mrs Jones is a 68 year old lady with a history of ovarian cancer. She has been admitted to hospital with abdominal pain and vomiting. Investigations have shown that she has metastatic disease in her pelvis that has resulted in bowel obstruction. She is not a surgical candidate because of the extent of her disease and there are no further anti-cancer treatment options available. Conversations about this have taken place with Mrs Jones and her husband, and she has expressed a desire to go home for end-of-life care. Mr Jones is planning to visit his wife in person in the next 24 hours, given the severity of the situation. Mrs Jones currently has an nasogastric tube in situ and a syringe driver administering her medications. |
