Instructions: For this case study, you will select and diagnose an organization of your choice. For the purpose of this assignment, assume you have been hired as a consultant to advise upper-management on sources of employee dissatisfaction. You can use your current place of employment (assuming it is an organization), or an organization that you frequently interact with. I strongly encourage you to diagnose an organization with which you are familiar (or have ready access) and to be candid with your interviewees about the purpose of this assignment. Your final product should be 3-4 double-spaced pages in length, and may include tables or charts where appropriate to help visualize relevant information. However, tables and charts should be supplementary and will not count toward the page requirement for this assignment. Feel free to use additional peer-reviewed resources where appropriate. Your assessment should speak to the qualities of the organization that may hinder employee retention and satisfaction, paying special attention to psychologically relevant variables. Your assessment should be based on Levinson’s approach for diagnosing organizations, which is described in detail in the Organizational Diagnosis Lecture. Therefore, your 3-4 page assessment must include summaries of information about the following (you will need to do some background research to complete a few of these): Physical spaces and how they may impact employees Leadership quality (choice, selection, etc.), from what you can readily observe or infer Communication systems and methods (how information is taken in, processed, and shared) At least one interview with an individual who is currently employed at the organization (excluding yourself). This interview should give some insight into #1-3 above, but should also be targeted to understanding the emotional atmosphere of the organization and employee satisfaction. It is up to you to decide which questions to ask, and you’ll need to include them in your summary. Please note that this assignment is intentionally vague. As a consultant, you will always have to work from scratch and use what’s given to you to do your job effectively. This assignment is intended to be practice. For now, you should not assume this will be your final product. Grading and Evaluation: This assignment is worth 8 points. |
