The first PC virus was detected in 1986. Earlier viruses during the 1980s and 1990s were easily detectable and less malicious than today’s viruses. Today, organised criminals are responsible for most of the threats against networked systems. There are a variety of different ways individuals (including criminals and those interested in exposing organisational operations) can attack a networked system. The introduction of Bring Your Own Devices (BYOD) into the organisational environment creates an almost unmanageable level of risk.
What are the ways in which an IT professional might mitigate the security issues associated with networked systems? Include any research that you have conducted on this topic and provide examples from your own experiences that might reflect your culture or the region of the world in which you live.
