Guidelines and Rubric
Purpose
Whether practicing at the local level or involved with health initiatives that encompass a national or global approach, nurses are equipped with competencies to promote the health of individuals and populations. Through key roles involving education, leadership, collaboration, and advocacy, MSN-prepared nurses are positioned to engage with others to reduce health disparity and facilitate social justice and health equity for all people. The purpose of this assignment is to reflect upon individual strengths and opportunities to advance global health through current practice. Future opportunities to shape global health through advanced nursing practice will be explored.
Course Learning Outcomes
Through this assignment, the student will address the following course learning outcomes:
- CO 3: Propose strategies to support health equity and improve health outcomes from a global perspective (PO 5)
- CO 4: Consider professional opportunities to serve, advocate for, and contribute to the advancement of global health (PO 3, 4, 5)

Assignment Overview
Because this assignment is reflective in nature, take time to consider and reflect upon the following:
- Your core values and how they align with the principles of global health
- The different ways that nurses contribute to global health through routine practice, caring for individuals, families, and groups
- Competencies essential for practice in the global health arena, and your areas of strength
- Current and future practice opportunities to support global health
After thoughtful reflection, create a 2- to 4- page reflective essay. Use a minimum of 3 peer-reviewed scholarly sources, current within 5 years, to support your work. See rubric for specific, required content criteria within each section of the paper:
- Provide an introduction to the reflective essay.
- Explain how your core professional values are congruent with the guiding principles of global health. Describe two personal strengths and explain how they align with the competencies essential for global health practice. Discuss how these two strengths can facilitate interprofessional collaborative practice.
- Discuss how you can use the strengths and competencies you identified to impact global health through advanced nursing practice. Explain one specific example that you plan to put into action, and describe how your efforts would contribute to health equity.
- Provide a conclusion to the reflective essay.
Assignment Instructions
- Abide by the Chamberlain College of Nursing Academic Integrity Policy.
- Sources older than five years may not be used without the permission of the class professor.
- Title page, pagination, subheadings, body of paper, citation of sources, and reference page must follow APA guidelines as found in the current edition of the manual.
- Rules of grammar, spelling, word usage, punctuation, sentence and paragraph structure are followed and consistent with formal, scholarly writing as noted in the APA Manual (current edition).
- No more than one short direct quote (15 words or less) may be used in this assignment.
- First person is acceptable for this reflective assignment.
- Please note: If you do not receive a proficient rating in any major content category, you can re-submit your assignment with revisions in those content categories to receive a better grade. You have one additional opportunity to revise after the initial submission in order to make improvements. The initial submission must be a complete paper, rough drafts will not be graded. All revisions must be submitted no later than Sunday of Week 7 at 11:59pm. (You cannot revise your graduate-level writing style for a higher grade in that category)

Quality of Literature Support | It is an expectation that a minimum of 3 scholarly sources, current within five years, are integrated within the assignment. If the above expectation is not met, 2 points shall be deducted. | ||
