We have read extensively about Muslim religious and political movements in the past weeks. The final segment of our studies of Islamic movements looks specifically at the most recent Islamist political movements in Africa, Boko Haram in Nigeria and Al-Shabab in Somalia.
Answer the following questions in the arranged order.
(a) In one page only, identify and summarize the historical origins of these movements based on information from this week’s readings only. Using external sources will be considered plagiarism.
(b) In 2 pages only (p 2 and 3), identify and explain why and how these movements became part of global terrorist networks, making sure to place them in both the local and global contexts;
(c) In one page only (p 4), identify and discuss how some of the previous readings help us understand these movements historically but also in more recent global political and economic contexts. Here you are encouraged to offer your perspective or understanding of the historical roots of these movements.
(d) In half a page, write your conclusion evaluating the importance or lack thereof, of this week’s readings.
