COLLEGE
SPRING 2022; FINAL EXAM
BACKGROUND: This exam shall focus on what has been learned throughout the entire semester.
ASSIGNMENT: The student shall use only course-related materials for this exam. This includes: course notes, power point lectures, the Mingst & Arreguin-Toft textbook. Review the issues (title slides for the power points as well as chapter titles should be viewed as issues) discussed in class (ONLY THOSE ISSUES DISCUSSED IN CLASS WILL SATISFY THIS REQUIREMENT) during this semester. Identify three issues most significant to yourself. Using the course materials ONLY, discuss why each of these issues are significant to you. In addition to the three issues discussed, identify the theory in International Relations you are most aligned with (ONE THEORY ONLY.USE OF MORE THAN ONE THEORY WILL RESULT IN SIGNIFICANT DEDUCTION IN GRADE). Link the theory to the issues. Show how your identification with a theory in IR influences your belief in the significance of the issues and vice-versa. IN ESSENCE, YOU ARE REVEALING THAT YOU ARE A [REALIST, LIBERALIST,ETC]AND USING THREE ISSUES TO SHOW WHY YOUR BELIEFS ALIGN WITH THAT THEORY. ONE OR TWO SENTENCES DECLARING WHICH THEORY YOU MOST CLOSELY ALIGN WITH IS INSUFFICIENT. YOU MUST PROPERLY LINK THE THEORY TO THE ISSUES YOU CHOOSE TO DISCUSS.
REQUIREMENTS: The essay shall be a MINIMUM of 1,000 words (approximately 3 ½ pages). The title page DOES NOT count toward word requirement.
PICTURES, TABLES, CHARTS, GRAPHS, ETC. ARE NOT ALLOWED TO BE INCLUDED IN THE ESSAY.
QUOTES OF 3 OR MORE LINES ARE NOT ALLOWED TO BE INCLUDED IN THE ESSAY.
PREDICTIONS ARE NOT ALLOWED!!
The essay shall be typed in Microsoft Word, New Times Roman, 12- point font, double spaced (the standard format for academia).
Proper citation is NOT needed for this exam. As you are ONLY using course material, an informal citation is all that is needed. Class lectures as well as power points need not be cited as a source (it is understood that you are taking information from this). When information is taken from the Mingst & Arreguin-Toft text it is necessary to parenthetically refer to the author[s] and the page number from which you have taken the information.
Prior to submitting a final draft, the student is encouraged to check the grading rubric provided. Doing so allows the student to check for any potential deficiencies in his/her essay and make any necessary adjustments.
The exam is to be uploaded to Webstudy when completed. THE EXAM IS TO BE COMPLETED IN MICROSOFT WORD ONLY. NO OTHER FORMAT IS ACCEPTABLE!!!
