Using the information you have learned through the reading, videos, and lectures consider the following question:
Impressionist painters were influenced by a rapidly changing world: from shifts in social order in France that accompanied a host of new developments in Paris to the fleeting aspects of nature and the technological advancements of the Industrial Revolution.
How were these influences reflected in the artistic products of this time period? What do you believe the most important change that occurred during this period was and how might it have affected the artists? Why do you think so many people react negatively toward the Impressionist painters? Give an example of a painting that shocked the public – explain why you believe people were outraged over this painting? Do you think the public was overreacting? Why or why not?
