General Description: This essay is your opportunity to display your sociological understanding of race and ethnicity. You also have the opportunity to use sociological terms, concepts and theories to analyze the social world around you.
Topic: You will use the sociological perspective to analyze the varied experiences of members of your group that reflect racial and ethnic relations in the US. Throughout your paper you need to include at least three concepts, terms or theories from the course readings between weeks 4-7. Use the following guidelines to complete your paper:
- Define and discuss the three terms, concepts or theories that you will apply in this paper.
- Put the definition in your own words and use examples to demonstrate your understanding.
- Describe the interactions of at least 2 members of your group with one or more of the major social institutions that we’ve discussed in class ( i.e., education, income and the labor market, housing, wealth, criminal justice system, health).
- Apply sociological theories/concepts/terms used in class to do so and think about how their racial/ethnic status influenced their interactions with this social institution.
- Compare and contrast the various experiences and think about how their racial/ethnic status shaped their experiences and may account for any similarities and/or differences.
- What is one benefit of being able to sociologically understand racial and ethnic relations on a micro (in your own life) and macro (in society) level?
Paper: You paper should be 6-7 pages pages in and written in APA format. It should be written at the collegiate level and proof read. Devote most of your discussion to addressing points one and two. Only one member of your group will upload your paper as a Word document.
