POSITION PAPER
Addresses Course Outcomes:
- recognize the ethical issues inherent in medicine, scientific research, and governmental policy-making and use critical thinking and sound reasoning to communicate these issues to stakeholders and interested parties
- demonstrate an understanding of ethical standards and comply with regulations, policies and guidelines in scientific practices and professional conduct
- critically evaluate scientific literature and various multi-media to validate findings in the context of currently accepted ethical standards of integrity, honesty, and fairness
In this paper, you will select an ethics issue from among the topics below and provide a 3-4 page paper on the issue.
Topic:
Genetically modified organisms;
In the paper, you will address:
- Explain the topic (20%)
- Why the topic or issue is controversial (25%)
- Is the controversy justified? Why or why not? (20%)
- Summarize current research about the issue and at least two credible sources. At least one reference source should discuss the issue from a pro and the other should discuss from a con perspective. (20%)
- Cite references in APA format (15%)
