SCENARIO:
The Ames Riders, a men’s professional basketball team, employs a head coach (male) and two assistant coaches (males). The total number of employees of the team (including players) is 25. Bill is a white male, age 30 and is the director of media services and has been with the team for 3 years. Jenna is a white female, age 28 and is the director of marketing and has been with the team 3 years as well. Tim is a white male, age 25 and is the director of ticketing and has been with the team for 3 months.
Scott oversees the three external areas (marketing, ticketing, media) and is the direct supervisor of Bill, Jenna and Tim. After the Ames Rider won their league title he decided to give Bill and Tim a 10% pay raise but only gave Jenna a 2% cost of living increase. Bill and Jenna have had excellent employment reviews in their 3 years and Tim is a new employee and hasn’t been evaluated yet. When Jenna found out she didn’t get as large of a raise she confronted Scott and asked why. Scott told her that when she refused to go out with him she knew what the ramifications would be.
You are the team’s general manager, Scott is a direct report of yours. Jenna has come to you with some concerns about the situation, please answer the questions below.
