Chapter 3 in the text describes the characteristics of Dynamic schools. Develop a checklist of the characteristics (include a brief description of each if needed to assist in your assessment). Use the checklist to assess the school you are working in or a school you are familiar with. Rate the school from one to five on each of the characteristics in your Dynamic School Assessment Checklist. The rating descriptions are:
” One – my school is not at all like the description given for this characteristic
” Two – my school is a little like the description given for this characteristic
” Three – my school is approaching the description given for this characteristic
” Four – my school is a lot like the description of this characteristic but has more work to do
” Five – my school is exactly as described on this characteristic
Include a basis/rationale/evidence to support each rating.
Reflect on the ratings. Put yourself in the place of the school leader and consider a strategy for improvement on one or more of the characteristics. Which characteristic(s) would you work on first; why have you chosen that/those characteristic(s); what strategy or strategies would you use for improvement on the characteristic(s)? Write up your thoughts as a one-page reflection.
