This board is not an “opinion board.” Rather, it is a mechanism for you to engage with your peers as you all dissect and synthesize course content. Your comments should be grounded within the literature of the textbook, Elizabeth Hutchinson 2019. That said, this discussion board and each response should include two peer-reviewed journal articles. When using references, please include in-text citations and include your reference list at the bottom of your original post. ***Please remember that you need to use social work writing, active voice instead of passive voice whenever possible (ex. Passive: The experiment was conducted by Roberts. Active: Roberts conducted the experiment).
Use person-first language. For example, “people with autism” instead of “autistics.”
Remember that “data” are always plural.
Use the word “participants” instead of “subjects.”
Keep your audience in mind.
Don’t: Use biased language; Use direct quotes (they can be used, but should be used sparingly. Paraphrase whenever possible). Use overly complex sentence structures. The goal is clarity.
DIRECTIONS
Please view the “Please Check Your Cultural Baggage” video. This video shows a group of interns having lunch together. While having lunch, they begin to discuss culture and find out that they have different perspectives. Please create a post that is approximately 750 words where you use course content (and external resources) to (a) describe what occurred, (b) select one intern and provide an assessment his/her/their ability to work with client’s who are different from them. Please make sure that you use the literature to justify your work.
