For this project, you will create a 12 – 15 slide PowerPoint (title page and reference page do not count towards the 12-15 slide) on a topic of your choice within cross-cultural psychology. Your slides will be a presentation of a literature review that includes 3 cross-cultural psychological, peer-reviewed articles published in the last 10 years, on your chosen topic. These articles should be researched the same cross-cultural psychology topic you chose for your presentation. This presentation will allow you to compare and contrast those three articles and compose a literature review. As long as the same topic is researched in the articles, the cultures can differentiate. This presentation is for you to learn and educate others on a topic you could do further research on – if you wanted. In addition, this presentation should be cohesive when explaining the articles.
Within a PowerPoint presentation you will create slides that:
- Summarize relevant points from each of the 3 articles. This includes a summary of the content that includes a description of the methods, sample, findings, etc.
- Tie together themes/synthesis from the studies.
In the notes section for each slide you will write out what you would actually present if you were to be giving this presentation. You should therefore put less than a paragraph’s worth of text on each slide, and in point-form.
Make sure to properly cite slides. APA formatting is not required for this project though, but any content you did not create must be properly credited.
To get started, you should identify a cross-cultural psychological topic of interest to you then conduct a literature search to identify the 3 articles.
After you summarize the relevant points of each article, you will move towards tying together the themes/synthesis. As Walker (n.d.) states “ A good review of the literature both summarizes and synthesizes information from multiple sources. Synthesizing is the process of making connections and putting information together from multiple sources. Your literature review should discuss and synthesize the research findings from multiple research articles that are relevant to your topic.” To do this I have bolded questions. If you answer/discuss the first (regarding similarities) within your Presentation, you will have provided a “theme”. If you answer/discuss any of the remaining, bolded questions, for the purposes of this assignment, you will have provided a synthesis.
o What similarities did you find discussed in the research articles you read? -Did different studies find the same or similar results? Use similar methods? Ask similar research questions? Etc.
o What differences did you find discussed in the research articles you read? -Did different studies find different results? Use different methods? Ask different questions on the same topic? Etc.
o What critiques do you have for the research articles you read?
o What are the implications of the research articles you read for your topic, idea, issue, area of concern, or population of interest?
o What information (remains) known and unknown about your topic or the population you are writing about?
