Country Expertise Memo #3
- Do natural resources (such as oil, copper, diamonds, exc.) play a major role in your country’s economy?
- If so, to what extent has your country benefited economically from natural resources?
- Does the “resource curse” apply to your country? (first define what the “resource curse” is)
- Does your country receive foreign aid (now or in the past)?
- Which countries does it receive the most foreign aid from?
- Why do some donors play a bigger role in giving your country aid than others?
If natural resources do not play a major role in your country’s economy and/or it is not a recipient of foreign aid:
- How would you define the state of your country’s economy today?
- Discuss what factors make economic growth difficult for your country
You should consult the course textbook, and other credible sources as needed.
Style guidelines:
- Your memo must be about 2-3 double spaced pages typed with 12-point font and default margins
- References (i.e. citations) should be placed in footnotes
- In the footnotes write the full citation out, including page numbers where needed
- You can use any citation format (i.e. Chicago, MLA, APA, exc.). Just stay consistent throughout the document.
- Use a minimum of 2 sources other than the course textbooks (this can be a mix of books, journal articles, newspaper articles, encyclopedias, exc.)
- Type your name on each page and number each page
