Knowledge:
Effective communication and outcomes in conflict management.

How things are related.
Task:
Create a concept map (or other visual display) which organizes “CONFLICT”. If you are new to concept maps, examples are provided.
In terms of the content, the visual should:
- Make connections between concepts of conflict, Conflict Interaction, face saving, ownership and interaction, especially as to how they relate to communication.
- Identify the range of power and identity influences in conflict (e.g., in terms of the face saving, Conflict Interaction, other environmental factors affecting the response to conflict) along with conflict styles and strategies.
- Include a wide variety of concepts, identifying where each might be important to consider in a professional conflict situation. Additionally, include contemporary examples from society to underline your connections and understanding.
- Describe the journey through conflict from a professional point of view. This should show reflection on the material as well as thoughts on conflict behaviors and beliefs.
In terms of its structure, the visual should:
- Be organized clearly to understand. Though, there’s not one right way for the information to be presented (I created several with different starting points as I worked on this assignment; there are dozens of unique approaches).
- Make connections among the items listed in content. As appropriate, label the connections that you are drawing between concepts so that it can be seen on how it is a connecting idea. The connections should help as an easy reminder of the breadth and complexity of conflict management theory and practices. As the criteria show, connections are an important part of the map!
In terms of the presentation, the visual should:
Be presented in an aesthetic manner (i.e., be easy to read, use colors and shapes in ways that add to the organization and presentation of information).
Be created in an easily accessible format to share your work. You can create your concept map using Word, Excel, or you can handcraft your concept map if you would like to go the artistic route (just needs to be readable).
